Most of us have been there- even with a career in fitness I’ve been there!
Life sometimes get’s hectic and one of the things that gets squeezed out is exercise. It’s quite easy to start believing that we don’t have enough time to get a workout in. You probably tell yourself you’ll get back to it once things have settled down (I’ve definitely been there!)
But Not Having Time to exercise is one of the biggest lies we tell ourselves.
In fact the opposite is true- We don’t have time to NOT exercise!
Believe it or not exercise is one of the most effective ways of living longer (and healthier) So in fact making time for a workout doesn’t COST you time it GIVES you more time in your life. (And allows you to enjoy your time to the fullest!)
In fact of all the predictors of longevity in a study done by Tufts University in America, the top 2 factors were the ones that are only improved by exercise– namely muscle mass and strength. (And needless to say improved more by resistance training exercise)
They found that how much muscle someone kept as they aged, and how much strength they maintained were the key factors in how long and healthily people lived!
So while all the other factors- blood pressure, bodyfat, bone density, cholesterol levels and blood sugar can be improved with good nutrition, they are all trumped by muscle mass and strength!
So next time you tell yourself you haven’t got time to exercise, instead think about all the extra time you could add to your life by commiting to a regular schedule of training, in particular strength training!
And remember, it doesn’t have to be for an hour 5 times a week… just doing a small amount each day will be an effective dose. So while it might be true that in the middle of a major project you don’t have the time to drive 20-minutes to the gym, workout for an hour, shower, change and drive home, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do anything at all!
That’s one of the benefits of having a coach who can guide you and provide you with effective programs to suit all circumstances. So why don’t you come along for a consultation with us and find out how you can fit an effective exercise program into your schedule!
